Taste many Yucatecan gastronomic delights, including Panuchos, Sopa de Lima, and Poc Chuc, but, if you only had time for ONE meal in Yucatán, it would have to be Cochinita Pibil: the pit-roasted pork. That sandwich is my favorite.
CENOTES. Visit Cuzamá to get the feel of three different types of cenotes. Cenotes are lakes in under ground caverns, a wonderful adventure. Magical experience. If you see a sign CENOTE, stop. Pay a small fee, climb down a rickety ladder to a cavern paradise. Sacred to the ancient Mayas, you will feel transported in time when you swim in one of these magnificent, under ground crystal-clear pools.

FLAMINGOS. Visit Celestún or Río Lagartos and take a boat tour to see these magnificent bird colonies amidst the mangroves, a unique event that you will always remember. Great bird watching all year long because we are in the tropics. More species in the winter as birds migrate from the north to our warmer climates in Yucatan
The Bullfight: La Corrida. Remains popular to this day in Mérida, Motul and many makeshift arenas in smaller towns. Locals practice their skills and daring without killing the bulls.

From the airport, take the 'Periferico' highway that circles Merida. Follow road signs to Progreso (35 minutes). Once there, follow road sign 10 Km to CHICXULUB. Stay on that highway for about 10Km.. Go PAST the turn left sign to Chicxulub Puerto( at about 10 Km). Travel 1 km past that sign, you will see a small concrete block police building #3, signed “Securidad”, on the rightside of the highway. It has a fluorescent light at night, and it is the only brightly lit building on the right side of the road. At this police station, overhead flashing yellow warning lights warn of a speed bump. Turn left about 200 yards past the flashing yellow lights, an unlit, 5 foot high by 3ft concrete sign on the left has “CASTILLO NICTE HA” impressed in it. An adjacent sign reads “MONKIS”, with a paintedmonkey face on it. Proceed about 300 yards. Castillo Nicte Ha is the tallest and only white three story building visible on the left.

"Hi Stan, 4/28/11
Well, we had the most amazing time. Your place was a joy, and I did 40 laps in the pool almost everyday. There was just so much to do. We enjoyed Merida at night, and also Progresso. We loved the 'Yucatan beach ' club and also Celestun with amazing ceviche, as a respite from climbing over amazing pyramids in the mid day sun. Thank you for a most cherished vacation that we would never have had with out you.

Your house is really beautiful though and everything was great! Some of the things we did were: Celestun, Merida (spent a night), San Ignacia cenote, the three cenotes where you go on the horse
ride (very cool!) Uxmal pyramids and checked out Progreso pretty good
(but it was very quiet) and the nearby areas Coco Beach, etc.
Thanks so much again, Stan & Annie!
From all of us!

"What we were looking for on our most recent trip to Mexico was peace and
quiet, And we found it - in spades - in the
penthouse at Castillo Nicte Ha, in Chicxulub, Yucatan.
The apartment is spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Hosts Stanley and
Anie Gardner seem to have thought of just about everything we needed in the
kitchen. And it was an easy drive into Progreso, just 9 miles away, to shop
in the excellent local supermarket, (San Francisco de Assissi) which helped
keep our dining costs down. We also enjoyed the occasional night out in one
of Progreso's beach side restaurants.
For anyone who prefers 'off the beaten path' accommodation, in its most
agreeable and relaxing sense, we thoroughly recommend the Castillo Nicte Ha.
Thanks to Anie and Stan for their thoughtful hospitality and Marta and Lucio
for on-site assistance.

"Hello Stan and Annie,
We are back home. We came back with great souvenirs from our trip. Your Castillo es magnifico! It was like on the pictures. We were a little bit scared at the beginning but we will recommend your place without a doubt. Lucio and Martha were very nice and Licia is beautiful. We cuddle her a lot. We passed a lot of time out of the house ; Progreso, Merida, Uman, San Igniacio, Telchac…we visited. My children appreciate their house, and food more now. "
