Villa Rentals in Alaska, USA

Alaska's coastline, 6,640 miles, is longer than all the other states' coastlines combined. It is the United States largest state, measuring 1,400 miles long and 2,700 miles wide; Rhode Island could fit into Alaska 425 times. The United States purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867 for $7.2 million. There are over three million lakes in Alaska. The largest, Lake Iliamna, is the size of Connecticut. With nearly 710,000 people Alaska ranks 47th in terms of population in the United States. The capital of Alaska is Juneau, but its largest city is Anchorage.

Although the climate in Alaska is primarily frigid, the climate of Anchorage and south central Alaska is mild by Alaskan standards due to the region's proximity to the seacoast, whereas Juneau experiences an oceanic climate, this climate generally features warm, but not hot summers and cool, but not cold winters, with a narrow annual temperature range. Juneau and the southeast Panhandle is also the only region in Alaska in which the average daytime high temperature is above freezing during the winter months.

Alaska is connected by road and rail to a certain extent, but many cities, towns and villages in the state do not have road or highway access; despite this you will find that the only modes of access which involve a well connected network of travel by air, river, and the sea, are more than sufficient in making your journey to one of the many Alaska vacation rentals a breeze. Because of limited highway access, air travel remains the most efficient form of transportation in and out of the state. As a matter of fact Anchorage has recently completed extensive remodeling and construction at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport to help accommodate the upsurge in tourism. Alaska is BIG! When planning your trip allow enough time for the region(s) you want to see and the things you want to do. All you need to do is determine what type of activities and adventures top your must do list and choose the region(s) that offer those experiences. Another must do, is checking into one of the many Alaska vacation rentals on offer throughout the state, what it would do is save you the time that you would waste scouting for a hotel, time that you could otherwise utilize in exploring this enormous state.

Begin your journey with an Alaskan Cruise, some of these cruises travel through Tracy Arm, one of the world's most incredible fjords, where bears and mountain goats are a common sight. You might even have frequent encounters with other wildlife including Harbor Porpoise, Orca (Killer Whales), Black Bear, Sea Otters, Harbor Seals, Sitka Black Tail Deer and a large variety of birds and ducks. Next visit the Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve; here you shall get to observe Aniakchak Caldera, the result of a series of eruptions, the latest in 1911. Nearly six miles in diameter and covering some ten square miles, it is one of the finest examples of dry calderas in the world. Located in the volcanically active Aleutian Mountains, the crater contains many outstanding examples of volcanic features, including lava flows, cinder cones, and explosion pits.

An Alaskan trip would be incomplete without some fishing, the state offers some of the most spectacular fly-fishing, saltwater fishing, freshwater fishing and even ice fishing in the world. It can be as easy as pulling off the side of the road and casting a line. Or you can charter a boat or float plane to whisk you off to a secluded fishing hole where you can reel in one of the more than 627 species that inhabit the Alaskan waters. With over 3 million lakes, 3,000 rivers and countless fish-filled streams, you can see the challenge isn't catching fish, but not managing to catch one. In retrospect it is impossible to encompass the enormity of all that Alaska has to offer in but a few words; so just choose one, from the many Alaska vacation rentals on offer, chalk out a detailed travel itinerary, and head for the airport.
