You could also choose a vacation rental located just an hour north of the city in the world renowned Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Napa Valley offers more than just amazing train tours through Wine country and exciting hot air balloon excursions. There are antique shops, spas and many golf courses. While back in San Francisco you can visit Twin Peaks which is the 2nd highest point in the city with a 360° view of the bay. Visit the ruins of the Surto baths dating back to 1896 where they were the world's largest indoor pool house. Walk down the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk and feel like a kid again while enjoying the amusement park rides. Don't want to walk, then take a drive through the Santa Cruz mountains appreciating the redwood forests or the stunning coastline along the famed Highway 1.
And of course one can not write about this incredible city without mentioning the world famous Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars and Fisherman's Wharf where you can feast on seafood and sourdough bread at Boudin which is a 5000 sq.ft. bakery. Fisherman's Wharf is also home to the Aquarium by the Bay, Pier 39 and the starting point for a boat ride and tour of Alcatraz Island.
