Sandwiched between the Everglades to the West and the Atlantic to the East, the South East Coast from Palm Beach to Miami is a vast and diverse sprawl of some of the most famous and popular locations in Florida. The proximity to Cuba and European colonial influences, lends this region a very distinct heritage which can be seen in the food, music and architecture of the region. Holiday accommodation in the area is amazingly diverse from simple holiday cottages in the Spanish style to huge beachfront luxury villa rentals as seen on TV. So let's slip on your espadrilles, roll up you jacket sleeves and grab a mojito and hit the coast!
Interstate 95 runs along the coast, providing fast and reliable access along the coast this means that no matter where your vacation rental is, you are within easy driving range of anywhere in the area. The alternative coast road - State Road A1A - is more picturesque but a little slower and takes drivers through some lush tropical and semi-tropical scenery as well as some incredible beachside driving.
Palm Beach is an affluent city with a whiff of the French Riviera (not onions, just money). A perennial favorite location for the rich and famous to buy holiday homes, Palm Beach has many famous residents past and present including Donald Trump, Jimmy Buffett, Michael Jackson and John Lennon. Be sure to check out the Diva Duck tour, an amphibious craft tour of some of the most picturesque parts of Palm Beach as well as a chance to ogle and spy on the estates of the rich and famous. Fine Art and Shopping are popular pastimes here and there are several world class museums and shopping malls to empty your pockets in.
Travelling south, the proximity to the Everglades to the west makes organized wildlife sightseeing tours a popular pastime –airboat tours are plentiful – as is the wildlife. Wintertime sees a massive influx in migratory bird species who come south to escape the cold - much like the retired folk of Boca Raton, although their holiday accommodation is somewhat less swampy. Boca is also famous for its high end shopping and dining as well as its beaches and Red Reef Park where one can snorkel out to a living reef without the need to charter a boat.
Just North of Miami is Fort Lauderdale – often referred to as the Venice of America due to its extensive and intricate canal system. It is a yachtsman's paradise with over 100 marinas and boatyards in the area and everything from dinghies to super-yachts available for hire. Balanced by the Atlantic Ocean breezes, the climate is particularly stable in this area, not typically reaching the hundred degree mark even in the height of summer. It is a popular tourist destination for those looking for a cruise-and-stay style vacation with Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale being one of the busiest ports in the region for cruise ships to depart or return to, it makes sense to locate your holiday accommodation in the area.
Miami is the quintessential South Florida destination – famous for its beautiful beaches, fantastic shopping and vibrant dining and nightlife, with influences from South America, Cuba and the Caribbean. Miami Beach – actually a city in its own right – lies on a barrier island between Biscayne Bay, Miami and the Atlantic Ocean, is where you will find the Art Deco District with its 30s designs and neon facades. Despite a reputation for being strictly for the bold and the beautiful, the beaches are actually very family friendly and well maintained. South East Florida has a wide variety of holiday accommodation for the visitor, whether it is beachfront condo rentals or substantial holiday villas away from the shore, the sprawl of cities along the coast has a great deal to offer.
